The Truth About Acne

Posted by with No Comments

There are so many myths about acne and what causes it I decided I need to tell you what the real deal is.  Acne is not caused by foods or poor hygiene. If that were the case there would be a lot more people with acne. However, due to hormones in milk and cheese, these foods may cause acne to flare up. Acne is caused by bacteria in a clogged hair follicle commonly known as a pore. Acne is genetic and sometimes skips a generation; it is hormonal and stress related. Acne is a chronic skin disease and  unfortunately there is no cure for it. The closest thing to a cure is the drug Accutane, which is usually only prescribed by a Dermatologist when all else fails. I myself have suffered with acne in my early 20’s and that is the main reason I became an Esthetician. It was not until I had regular facials to clear my pores and went on the Pill for medical reasons, that my acne started to subside. Twenty plus years later I still experience some breakouts, but nothing like the acne flares I had in my 20’s. Your acne did not appear overnight so don’t expect one facial to clear your skin. Your Esthetician will work with you to plan a series of treatments and home care to gradually clear your skin. So many factors are involved regarding acne formation so you have to be very patient.
